The topic of culture plays a central role in mediation. The mediator is required to deal sensitively with the different cultural backgrounds of the parties involved. Culturally shaped values, communication styles, behavioural patterns, as well as differing views on hierarchy, time, or conflict resolution influence not only the parties’ positions but often also their underlying interests. A culturally sensitive mediation can help make misunderstandings visible and promote mutual understanding.
This session helps you to better understand cultural differences and how they play into resolving conflict.
